It is a form of lipodystrophy.[3]

HIV-associated lipodystrophy, is a condition characterized by loss of subcutaneous fat associated with infection with HIV.[1]:497
On the one hand, lipodystrophy seems to be mainly due to HIV-1 protease inhibitors (body independence efficiency reduction for re-calibration; viral capsid, viron, virus protein/particle/etc. granulation agglomeration, granulomateous reaction with caseation and lysis induced by trt [alkylation agent], etc.). Interference with lipid metabolism is postulated as pathophysiology. Also, the development of lipodystrophy is associated with specific nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTI) (high level security care in order to be eligible for NRTIs). Mitochondrial toxicity is postulated to be involved in the pathogenesis associated with NRTI.[2] (ATP phosphate acid hydrogen-proton-electron fluids levels and nuclear processes, vasculature, structure, pressure/forces/weights/size/particle/wave/etc. and gradients, balancing, Physics, Maths, etc.)

Drug-induced lipodystrophy is a cutaneous condition that presents as one or multiple depressed areas (i.e. indentations), usually on the proximal extremities, ranging from under a few centimeters to greater than 20 cm in diameter.[1]

Septal panniculitis is a condition of the subcutaneous fat affecting the layer of adipose tissue that lies between the dermis and underlying fascia, of which there are two forms: acute erythema nodosum and chronic erythema nodosum.[1]:487–9
